A Severe Flood Watch is in effect for affected areas of Texas through 16 October 2026, 07:00, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS). The watch was issued October 14 at 5:19AM CDT and is in effect from 14 October 2026, 05:19 until 16 October 2026, 07:00.
The watch covers portions of southwest and western Texas, including Gaines; Dawson; Borden; Scurry; Andrews; Martin; Howard; Mitchell; Loving; Winkler; Ector; Midland; Glasscock; Ward; Crane; Upton; Reagan; Pecos; Terrell; Reeves County Plains; Chinati Mountains; Marfa Plateau; Davis Mountains; Davis Mountains Foothills; Central Brewster County; Chisos Basin; Presidio Valley; and Lower Brewster County. The severity is listed as Severe, urgency as Future, and certainty as Possible.
This Flood Watch means flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall may be possible. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas, and low-water crossings may be flooded.
If conditions worsen, monitor forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued. For emergencies call 911. Follow guidance from the NWS and local authorities or emergency services. Consider moving vehicles from low-lying areas and avoid travel through low-water crossings or flooded roadways. Keep a simple preparedness kit and have a plan to move to higher ground if flooding is observed.
