The GECU Federal Credit Union in El Paso, Texas is preparing for a comprehensive system upgrade that will take place from July 31 to August 3. This transformation aims to enhance the banking experience for its customers by streamlining back-end operations and processes. However, certain services will be temporarily unavailable during this period.
As the upgrade approaches, customers are encouraged to take proactive steps to ensure a smooth transition. The credit union has provided guidelines to help members prepare for the changes and minimize any inconvenience.
Services affected by the upgrade
During the upgrade period, several key services will be unavailable. These include Bill Pay scheduled transfers, account and card alert registration, external loan payments, eStatements, mobile check deposit, and Card Management. However, customers can still apply for loans and open new accounts through the bank’s website.
To mitigate the impact on customers, GECU will advance direct deposits scheduled for August 1-3 provided they are received by July 31. Other direct deposits will be processed as soon as the upgrade is complete. Customers are advised to make any necessary loan payments or transfers before 5 p.m. on July 31.
Additionally, transactions processed with money-transfer apps linked to GECU accounts will be unavailable starting at 10 p.m. MST on Friday, July 31.
Preparing for the upgrade
GECU has outlined several steps customers can take to prepare for the upgrade. Before July 30 customers should verify their contact information, mark their calendars, and keep an eye on their mail and email. They are also advised to screenshot their Zelle activity, turn on their cards if needed, add cards to their mobile wallets, make mobile-check deposits, and update their bill pay information.
Before July 31 customers should check their balances, make necessary transactions, perform wire transfers, make ATM check and cash deposits, and add nicknames to their accounts. After August 4 customers should double-check their payments and re-enroll in Zelle if necessary.
The upcoming upgrade is expected to bring significant improvements to the banking experience. By following the provided guidelines, customers can ensure a smooth transition and minimize any disruption to their banking activities.
