The Amarillo Fire Department faced a challenging night on Saturday, responding to multiple fires that erupted across the city. The defensive operations required significant resources and coordination, with crews working tirelessly to contain the blazes.
Among the most critical incidents was a fully involved structure fire at the intersection of Amarillo Boulevard and Bivins. This fire, along with several others, kept firefighters busy throughout the evening. By 11:20 PM, all fires were still active, prompting the AFD to urge residents to stay clear of the affected areas for their safety.
Locations of the Fires
The fires were reported at several locations across Amarillo. A grass fire broke out at 13307 Bandera, while another grass fire was reported at 7605 Amarillo Blvd East. The structure fire at Amarillo Boulevard and Bivins was particularly intense, requiring a defensive approach from the firefighters.
Additional fires included a grass fire at 1705 N. Washington, an outside fire at 4702 Rusk, and another structure fire at the intersection of 45th and Soncy. Each of these incidents demanded immediate attention and resources from the AFD.
Progress and Control
By 12:07 AM Sunday, the Amarillo Fire Department reported that most of the fires were under control. The Emergency Operations Center was subsequently shut down as the situation stabilized. The AFD assured the public that they would provide more detailed information about these incidents on Monday.
