Texas A&M University has made a significant addition to its athletics department by appointing Leroy Burrell as the new head coach of its track & field program. Burrell, a former Olympic gold medalist and world-record holder, brings a wealth of experience and success to the Aggies.

Before joining Texas A&M, Burrell spent the past four seasons as the head coach at Auburn, where he led the Tigers to four consecutive top-five finishes at the NCAA Championships. Burrell’s coaching career began at the University of Houston, his alma mater, where he spent 23 seasons. At Auburn, Burrell continued to build on his legacy. In the 2026 season, the Tigers finished second in the national outdoor championships. The following year, they secured third place indoors and fourth outdoors in 2026, and fourth indoors in 2026. His ability to maintain a high level of performance year after year is a testament to his coaching prowess.
