A Severe Flash Flood Warning is in effect for southeastern Jeff Davis County in southwestern Texas, according to the National Weather Service. The warning is active until 5:45 PM CDT today.

The warning covers areas including Fort Davis, Davis Mountains State Park, McDonald Observatory, Indian Lodge, Fort Davis National Historical Site, and Black Mountain. At 2:47 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain, with between 1 and 2 inches of rain already fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

A Flash Flood Warning indicates that flooding is occurring or is imminent in the warned area. Flash floods can occur quickly, with little warning, and can be life-threatening. Small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses, as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas, are particularly vulnerable.

In case of an emergency, dial 911. Follow the guidance of the National Weather Service and local authorities. To stay safe, turn around and do not drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and avoid driving on flooded roads. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks.
