The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is about to get another taste of Kura Sushi’s unique dining experience. The popular revolving sushi bar chain is set to open its eighth location in the area, bringing its innovative concept to Arlington in the winter of 2026.
Kura Sushi, known for its conveyor belt sushi delivery and extensive menu, has been a hit in the North Texas region. With over 550 locations worldwide, including Japan and Taiwan, the chain has carved out a niche for itself by combining traditional Japanese cuisine with cutting-edge technology.
Expanding the Kura Sushi footprint in Arlington
The new Arlington location will be situated at 4000 Arlington Highlands Blvd. Suite 133marking a significant addition to the chain’s presence in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Robert Kluger, Kura Sushi’s chief development officer, expressed enthusiasm about the new venture, stating, “We’ve been in the market for quite some time now. It’s one of our more successful markets in the entire country.”
Construction on the new location is scheduled to begin on July 20 and is expected to wrap up by Dec. 7. The project, with a $1.5 million budget, will transform the existing building into a modern, avant-garde space that showcases Kura Sushi’s distinctive interior design.
The Kura Sushi experience: Technology meets cuisine
Kura Sushi’s appeal lies in its unique blend of technology and culinary artistry. The restaurant’s signature feature is its conveyor belt systemwhich delivers sushi plates directly to diners’ tables. This interactive dining experience allows customers to try a variety of dishes, with prices averaging around $4 per plate.
The menu boasts an impressive selection of over 100 itemsranging from classic sushi rolls to innovative Japanese-inspired dishes. Kluger highlighted the versatility of the menu, saying, “Everything is small plates and you can just pull any one of those 100 menu items and taste and try a bunch of different sushi or Japanese cuisine.”
The history and growth of Kura Sushi
The concept of conveyor belt sushi was pioneered by Kura Sushi Inc. in the late ’70s. The brand made its debut in the United States in 2008, bringing its tech-savvy approach to sushi dining to a new audience. Since the early 2000s, Kura Sushi has expanded rapidly, establishing over 550 locations across Japan, Taiwan, and the United States.
Kluger reflected on the brand’s growth, noting, “It was really saying, how do we bring this brand that’s a unique experience because it’s conveyor belt sushi or Kura Sushi to the U.S. because it really wasn’t that prevalent here.” This innovative approach has resonated with diners, making Kura Sushi a standout in the competitive restaurant landscape.
Arlington’s appeal for Kura Sushi
Kluger emphasized that Arlington’s demographics and vibrant atmosphere made it an ideal location for the new Kura Sushi restaurant. The city’s median age of roughly mid-30s aligns well with the chain’s target customer base. “Arlington really aligned well with our core customer, and with our more successful restaurants in the Dallas market or DFW market,” Kluger said.
The new location is expected to attract both daytime and nighttime diners, contributing to the brand’s overall success in the region. Kluger expressed confidence in Arlington’s potential, stating, “We look for that mix of the daytime pop and nighttime pop that really make the brand sing and we have no doubts that Arlington’s gonna be one of the top of those performers.”
While an exact opening date has not been set, Kluger indicated that more details would be announced in the late summer or early fall. Arlington residents can look forward to experiencing the unique blend of technology and Japanese cuisine that Kura Sushi is known for.
