The Fort Worth Police Department is appealing to the public for assistance in identifying a gunman who injured four individuals, including a child and a police officer, following a community event on Saturday night. The incident, which occurred near the historic Stop Six Park, has left the community in shock and authorities seeking answers.

The shooting took place outside a strip shopping center on East Rosedale Street, just as attendees were leaving a gathering celebrating “Stop Six Day.” Witnesses reported that a man dressed in all black emerged from an apartment complex, opened fire indiscriminately, and then fled back toward the apartments.

The Aftermath of the Shooting

A female bystander was the most severely injured, sustaining a gunshot wound to the head and being hospitalized in critical condition. An elderly woman was shot in the hip, and a child was grazed by a bullet in the head. Both have non-life-threatening injuries. Additionally, a Fort Worth police officer, who was sitting in his patrol vehicle, was struck by shrapnel from a bullet that penetrated his windshield.

Officer Brad Perez, a spokesman for the Fort Worth Police Department, described the incident as random and indiscriminate. “From the way it was described, he came between the apartments and the business strip,” Perez stated. “So, he popped out from there, fired the gun, and then ran back that direction toward the apartments. It was just so random and indiscriminate as far as the way those shots were fired, and who all that they struck.”

Perez also addressed concerns about whether the officer was targeted. “The first thing I asked, ‘Was the officer targeted?’ We currently do not believe he was. We just believe he was just in the line of fire,” he said.
