The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating a deadly carjacking that occurred near Houston’s North Loop on Saturday afternoon. The incident, which began as an aggravated robberyescalated into a violent confrontation that left one man dead and another injured.

The chain of events started around 2:03 p.m. when deputies were called to the 11800 block of Tidwell Road. According to investigators, the victim was at a gas station when a man approached him, inquiring about his blue Chevrolet Silverado. The situation quickly turned violent when the suspect allegedly pulled out a firearm and stole the truck.

The Chase and the Shooting

The victim, utilizing a GPS tracking device and mobile application, was able to locate the stolen vehicle. The victim’s father and a friend separately found the Silverado near the intersection of Interstate 610 and Airline Drive. A collision occurred, disabling the stolen truck, and the suspects fled towards a nearby Chevron gas station.

The victim’s father, a Hispanic man in his 50spursued the suspects. During the chase, the male suspect allegedly fired several shots. The father was struck multiple times and later died from his injuries at a hospital. A second victim, believed to be a friend of the original vehicle owner and approximately 24 to 25 years oldwas also shot in the lower back but is expected to survive.

The Aftermath and Ongoing Investigation

A Metro employee who witnessed the shooting was unharmed, although a bullet struck her vehicle. The two suspects, described as a Black man and a Black womanfled the scene in another dark-colored pickup truck. Deputies initially detained several individuals at the scene to determine their involvement.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Division is leading the investigation, which includes reviewing surveillance video and other evidence. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers.
