Patel shared, “We grew up in the U.S., but we were born abroad. To have the World Cup back in the U.S. after so long is really exciting.” Their enthusiasm reflects the cultural significance of the tournament for many immigrants who grew up watching soccer.
Sugar Land officials are expecting thousands of visitors daily for various community events tied to the tournament. In addition to the retail store, the city will host eight viewing parties just steps away from the storefront, providing a vibrant atmosphere for fans to gather and enjoy the games.

Becoming the official partner with the FIFA World Cup Houston Host Committee was no small feat for Sugar Land. Alison Brooksfrom Sugar Land’s tourism office, revealed that the city invested $2.5 million to secure this partnership. “It’s really something that is important for us, and we see a lot of value in it. For us, it was about not sitting on the sidelines,” Brooks stated.
The funding for this partnership came from a combination of sources, including Sugar Land’s hotel occupancy tax fund and two investment corporations: the Sugar Land Development Corporation and the Sugar Land 4B Corporation. Both organizations are focused on driving economic growth in the city.
An Airbnb report estimates that approximately 181,000 tourists will stay in rented accommodations during Houston’s seven matches. While the city has not yet projected the total economic impact, officials are optimistic about the boost in sales tax and hotel occupancy tax, which will benefit local businesses.
